Poetry Africa 2013

17th Poetry Africa 2013

14 - 19 October

The popularity of the spoken word is evident in the powerful performance arc that threads through the Poetry Africa festival. Music is also a prominent presence in this landmark festival organised by the Centre for Creative Arts (University of KwaZulu-Natal). Poetry Africa runs in Durban from 14 to 18 October at the Elizabeth Sneddon Theatre, with the festival finale at BAT Centre on 19 October.

Poetry Africa has had a relationship with the Ordsprak Festival in Uppsala, Sweden, since 2006. In this year’s exchange Lebo Mashile, Lefifi Tladi,Tumelo Khoza, Dashen Naicker and Ngwatilo Mawiyoo (Kenya) have been sent to represent Poetry Africa at Ordsprak. A Swedish contingent comprising Henry Bowers, Oskar Hanska, Sam Kessel, Solja Krapu and Laura Wihlbörg will participate in Poetry Africa in Durban (15-20 October). Look out for the South Africa versus Sweden showdown during this year's SlamJam at the Bat Centre (20 October).
